In a heartwarming moment at the Toronto International Film Festival, Angelina Jolie, 49, brought a very special guest to the premiere of her new movie, Without Blood. Jolie was joined by her 20-year-old son, Pax, who had a behind-the-scenes role in the film, working on the Electronic Press Kit. The film, which Jolie directed and wrote, is a powerful drama set in the aftermath of a tragedy.
On the red carpet, the Oscar-winning actress and director posed for photos with Pax, who made headlines just two months earlier due to a serious e-bike accident. Jolie shared her relief, telling Entertainment Tonight, "I'm very happy he's healthy," while also noting how proud she is of his involvement in the project. Pax worked alongside his older brother, Maddox, 23, in the assistant director department, making this project a true family affair.
After the screening at TIFF Lightbox, Jolie and the film's stars, Salma Hayek and Demián Bichir, sat down for a Q&A moderated by TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey. As the session wrapped up, Pax stood with the audience in a standing ovation, showing his support for his mother and her remarkable work. Seated nearby was Hayek’s husband, François-Henri Pinault.
Without Blood is adapted from Alessandro Baricco’s novel and explores themes of family, war, and revenge. Jolie has been praised by Salma Hayek as "probably the best director I’ve ever worked with."
Jolie has always been passionate about involving her children in her creative ventures. Earlier this year, she revealed that her daughter Vivienne worked as a production assistant on The Outsiders, a Tony Award-winning musical adaptation that Jolie produced. “Viv is a young artist who focuses her efforts on her support of others,” she said.
In addition to Without Blood, Jolie’s latest film Maria, in which she portrays the iconic opera singer Maria Callas, has also premiered to strong reviews at both the Venice Film Festival and the Telluride Film Festival.
