Textiles and Business: Iris and her husband, Carl Apfel, were in business together from 1950 to 1992. They launched the textile firm Old World Weavers, specializing in fabric reproductions from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Their travels to Europe twice a year allowed them to source textiles not readily available in the United States.

White House Connection: Iris Apfel played a significant role in design restoration projects, including work at the White House for nine presidents, from Harry S. Truman to Bill Clinton. She found the White House contract relatively straightforward, except for Jacqueline Kennedy, who had distinct design preferences.

Fashion Icon: In retirement, Iris gained acclaim for her extraordinary collection of costume jewelry. In 2005, her collection was featured at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in a show at the Costume Institute. The exhibit showcased her jewelry styled with clothes on mannequins, reflecting her unique fashion sensibility. She has become a true fashion icon, even signing with IMG as a model at the age of 97.

She emphasizes that if you’re not comfortable, you won’t look well. Clothes should never wear you; instead, you should wear the clothes. Iris practices what she preaches, favoring flats over heels and opting for low-key, comfortable outfits on casual days.

Her work spanned various domains, including running a textile company called Old World Weavers with her partner. She also served as a stylist for nine American presidents. Luka Modric Documentary (2024): From War Refugee, to Ballon d’Or Winner | Celebrity Biographies

Luka Modric is a Croatian footballer who plays as a midfielder for the Croatian national team and the Spanish football club ‘Real Madrid.’ He is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders of his generation and has won numerous awards and trophies, including the Ballon d’Or, the FIFA World Cup Golden Ball, and four UEFA Champions League titles.

Modric was born on September 9, 1985, in Zadar, Croatia, to a family of refugees who fled from the Bosnian War. He had a difficult childhood, as he witnessed the horrors of war and lost his grandfather, who was killed by Serbian rebels. He found solace in football, which he played in the hotel parking lot where his family lived. He was often rejected by scouts and coaches for being too small and weak, but he never gave up on his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

Modric started his career at Dinamo Zagreb, where he won three consecutive league titles and impressed with his vision, passing, and creativity. He moved to Tottenham Hotspur in 2008, where he became a key player and helped the team reach the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. In 2012, he joined Real Madrid, where he established himself as one of the best players in the world and formed a formidable partnership with Toni Kroos. He has been instrumental in Real Madrid’s success, winning four UEFA Champions League titles, two La Liga titles, and three FIFA Club World Cups.

He is also the captain and leader of the Croatian national team, which he led to the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where they lost to France. He was awarded the Golden Ball as the best player of the tournament, becoming the first Croatian to win the award. He also won the Ballon d’Or in 2018, ending the decade-long dominance of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He is Croatia’s most capped player and their all-time top assist provider.

Modric is married to Vanja Bosnic, whom he met in 2007 when she was working as his agent. They have three children: Ivano, Ema, and Sofia. He is known for his humble and modest personality, as well as his charity work. He has donated money and equipment to various causes, such as hospitals, schools, and football clubs in his hometown of Zadar. He is also a devout Catholic and has a tattoo of a cross on his right arm. He is fluent in Croatian, English, and Spanish.
